Some fishing slow, but bass biting well

Wednesday 30 June 2010 @ 5:06 pm

Most sources of fishing information around Northwest Michigan are reporting rather slow action. Seems the fishing is fair, when it isnt raining or blowing up a storm, but the number of folks actually out on the water is down and the fishing success is also down. Bass fishing, however, is quite good, as it generally is in June. My fishing log confirms that June is the best bass fishing month of …

Deciding to Stop Smoking: Rising Above Withdrawal Urges.

When you smoke, your body is exposed to nicotine, a very addictive substance. The longer period that the body is exposed to nicotine, the harder it is for the body to function properly without such substance. This is the reason why people who smoke, especially those who have been smoking for a long time already, may find it difficult to stop smoking. They have become addicted to nicotine, and they will need longer time just to cleanse their system from the nicotine. So, even if they have finally stopped from smoking, they are still faced with the urge to go on a relapse and smoke again. This is commonly known as nicotine withdrawal urges.

Withdrawal symptoms may come in different forms, and has different effects on different people. Some urges may take form in the following:

Freshwater Fishing In Florida

Monday 28 June 2010 @ 4:02 am

Floridians enjoy their fishing… and that is quite an understatement . In Florida you’ll see people anglingt from old bridges, canal banks, piers and anywhere there is a channce of getting hooked up . People will even fish along route U.S. 41 through the Everglades … while paying close attention to the alligators!

If you are 16 years or older and intend fishing in Florida, you are going to need a fishing licence. These have a minimal cost and can be purchased throughout Florida , mostly at bait and tackle shops. These licences generate more than $1.8 billion in annual state revenues which puts into perspective the popularity of Florida fishing. The revenues help maintain fish populations with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission restocking over 100 lakes and rivers with over 4 million fish each year .

In addition to off-shore and coastal fishing, Florida is home to over 3 million acres of freshwater lakes plus 12,000 miles (19,000 kms) of freshwater streams and rivers. These waters are home to approximately 250 species of freshwater fish of which 30 species can be fished for both food and sport . It’s not hard to see why Florida is considered to be the fishing capital of the world with numerous popular freswater fishing destinations scattered across the state.

One of the most popular freshwater sport fish is the large mouth bass, found in most Florida freshwater locations. Several varieties of bass are common throughout the state but it’s the Florida large mouth bass that rermains one of the more sought after trophy fish. Some of the other popular freshwater catches are crappie, white bass, striped bass, panfish and catfish .

The Treasure Coast on Florida’s eastern Atlantic seashore is one of the state’s best fishing regions. In addition to the miles of Atlantic shore , the inland rivers provide opportunities for anglers seeking variety, and one of the renowned freshwater locations is Lake Okeechobee, Florida’s largest lake and stocked with excellent table fish. This shallow lake has an average depth of just 9 feet (2.75m) and a maximum depth of 17 feet (4.3m).

Lake Okeechobee covers an area of over 730 square miles and was once the site of a commercial fishing industry. A ban on net fishing all but eliminated the industry, and the lake is now almost exclusively the domain of sporting anglers from all over the world. The towns of Fort Pierce, Jensen Beach and Stuart on the central east coast are all in close proximity to the lake. From the central west coast, the town of Fort Myers and the surrounding areas are the closest to the lake.

Most Florida coastal, lake and river cities and towns have marinas that harbor fishing charter boats. There is usually a choice of private charters for just your own party or the cheaper option of party boats that can take larger groups. Party boats will usually provide the gear, bait and the fishing license. Depending on the location, charters may also offer freshwater, backwater and off shore fishing options.

Enjoying Some Time Outside On A Fishing Charter With Dad Adds Up To A Outstanding Father’s Day

Sunday 27 June 2010 @ 4:05 am

Only just dismissed from a medical facility, 10-year-old Pasadena resident, Joey Filetto, has an illness called T-cell leukemia. He almost never gets to spend time together with his father because of his numeroous healthcare procedures at Johns Hopkins Hospital and his father’s working hard to find the money for the huge health related charges. Despite that fact, tomorrow on Father’s Day, he and his dad, Joe Filetto, will spend a unique afternoon on board a charter fishing boat.

The day is a treat from the fishing charter service, Chesapeake Bay Sport Fishing, and the Casey Cares Foundation. The Casey Cares Foundation understands that while we simply cannot cure the emotionally stressful sicknesses, we can boost the parents in caring and resourceful ways. The charitable organization offers great programs to critically-ill kids and their households around Maryland and the mid-Atlantic states.

“It really is an excellent name for that charitable organization due to the fact they really look after the youngsters,” said Joe Filetto. He will relish enjoying Father’s Day fishing with his son. This sporting event is just one part of “Family Festivities,” one of six services of the organization. As one social worker says, “Your organization is similar to this little gem that gets put in their world to help furnish chances for these youngsters and their families to unwind, laugh, celebrate, and be recognized as the awesome people they are.”

Alongside the Filettos will be 8-year-old leukemia patient, Mikey Thurin, his brother Chris and dad Jim; 12-year-old leukemia patient, Kevin Gill and his dad Kevin; 10-year-old Caroline Keller being treated for non-Hodgkins lymphoma and her dad Jeffrey; and 12-year-old Alexandra Hancock who is fighting a malignant brain tumor, and her siblings Emily, Lindsay and Suzanne and dad Jeff.

All the dads and their children will sail off from the charter boat’s dock in Stevensville and enjoy good quality time with each other on the fishing charter in the Chesapeake Bay until dark after enjoying box lunches contributed by Heavenly Ham of Severna Park.

“I can not help relieve their pain,” Rich Shot, owner of Chesapeake Bay Sport Fishing, said in a press release. “But I can give back in a way to create a memory that will last a lifetime.”
