You have a predicament. You have found yourself with two pieces of filament line that are two different sizes and you want to join them together. There is a solution that will take some practice. The Albright knot is perfect for joining two different sizes of line. The thicker line will serve as the base while the thinner line slides through. When properly crafted, the Albright knot provides a successful joining of two different line sizes. Albright knots are often used to join braided line to filament as well, so this is one knot that you want to practice and become efficient at producing.
There are four simple steps to successfully creating an Albright knot they are:
First find the ends of each line. Select the heaviest of the two lines and create a loop that resembles the head of a basic sewing needle and hold it firmly in between your left thumb and forefinger;
2. Holding the loop between your left forefinger and thumb, carefully insert the thinner filament into the loop that you created. Make sure that you hold the loop tightly to avoid slipping and carefully wrap the lighter line around the base approximately 10 times. When you are done this piece may resemble a classic hangman’s noose.
After you have wrapped the smaller line, the end needs to come back through the loop – exactly the way it went in. This step is critical as it will ensure that your knot is strong.
4. To further strengthen your Albright knot, wet the entire knot and tug on the two ends until they are tightly joined. This helps add the additional strength that you will need for successful fishing. Now you can trim the ends and your Albright knot is ready to be used on your favorite reel.
When you start wrapping your line it is important that it be as neat as possible. Stop and think about your Albright knot like this – if it’s well constructed and smooth it will go through your reel as if it were nothing more than a kink in your line – if it’s poorly constructed it is likely to get stuck in the guides or in your reel at the most opportune time during your fishing expedition. The smoother your Albright knot design, the more effective it will be. Some anglers like to put a drop of super glue on the ends of the clipped ends to reduce the chances that the line will start fraying and catch in your guides or reel.
If you are interested in experimenting with the Albright knot, you can do so by creating a crisscross design. This is done simply by winding the line five times in a downward motion then reversing and coming back up five times to create the crisscross. This method creates an even stronger Albright knot and the overall results will be more eye appealing. While eye appeal isn’t more critical than strength, it can’t hurt.
When you are getting prepared for a saltwater fishing adventure, having the proper equipment is essential. Some of the most popular products on the market include okuma fishing reel and van staal reels.

Kenya safari tours are immensely popular; this is due to the dramatic landscape, which includes snow-capped mountain peaks, deserts, rainforests and volcanoes – as well as flamingo covered lakes, the clear blue seas of the Indian Ocean and Mt. Kilimangiro , Kenya has a wealth of wildlife to see, such as; buffalo, giraffes, leopards, lions, cheetahs, and elephants .
A Botswana safari is also a very popular destination . Botswana is a massive country with an extremely tiny population - the majority of its land is used for the preservation of its animals , of which, most can be spotted in the north, including the ‘big five’ and the lesser seen Sitatunga Antelope . The massive amount of varied wildlife makes Botswana perfect for a safari trip - there’s over five hundred species of birds, and it’s home to the greatest amount of endangered wild dogs.
Tanzania safari holidays are incredible . Tanzania resides in the heart of East Africa, just south of the equator. The landscape is breathtaking and there’s many National Parks and Game Reserves to visit . You may recall that Hardy, a well known fly fishing tackle provider in the UK, was the organization that released carbon fibre technologies to fishing rods. Let me tell you, it seems as though they have done it once again with a material known as SINTRIX™. Curious? In fact I was also. Keep reading to learn what I’ve discovered up to now concerning this new fly fishing tackle technology.
Fly Fishing Tackle - What on earth is SINTRIX™
SINTRIX™ serves as a truncated acronym for “silica nano matrix.” This is a cutting-edge resin formulation designed for carbon fibre rods. This resin reinforces the rod blank in such a manner that the chance of splitting is almost impossible and damage is very improbable. In the process of development, Hardy analyzed SINTRIX™ rods on a jig that essentially bent them in two without breakage. This substance is 60% tougher than traditional carbon fibre though being roughly 30% lighter weight. Incredible! While initially confined to Hardy’s fly rod brand, the business expects to bring in SINTRIX™ technology to its coarse, carp, and sea lines in addition, including the brands Chub and Greys. SINTRIX™ rods are expected to launch early in 2011.
Fly Fishing Tackle - The Challenges with Present Carbon Fibre Rod Technology
Whenever carbon fibre fly rods were initially offered, they transformed the approach to how we went fishing. Anglers left behind other styles of fishing rods and gathered behind carbon fibre rods in mass. Ultimately, however, we realized that these kinds of rods, although they include numerous strengths, are vulnerable to damage. In the same way carbon rod technology replaced fibreglass rod technology, I expect that SINTRIX™ rods could make substantial inroads in opposition to rods made with carbon fibre. Carbon fibre rods have resin that surrounds the carbon. The resin is there to hold the fibres parallel to each other, which consequently permits the rod flex. Having said that, if a carbon fibre rod is required to flex past a specific constraint, the resin will fail, causing the rod to snap. This is because the carbon fibre is naturally tougher than traditional resins.
Fly Fishing Tackle - The Fix? SINTRIX™ Rods
SINTRIX™ rod technology makes use of a fortified resin matrix that’s elevated to give superior support to the carbon fibres. Hardy & Greys Ltd. have designed a one of a kind kind of silica nano sphere and mixed it into the resin of SINTRIX™ rods. The consequence? A rod where the carbon fibre is much better supported and reinforced. To the fisherman, this implies that the rod allows an incredibly smooth cast. A SINTRIX™ has outstanding tensile durability that allows it to bend to a more significant degree versus other rods without damage. SINTRIX™ rods also withstand accidental deterioration better. Created to support a mass from 5 to 250 pounds, these kinds of rods are envisioned to encourage sweeping change in the manner in which we fish. I look forward very much to buying my first SINTRIX™ rod, which I know is going to be a great add-on to my fly fishing tackle series.

Excursions into the deep blue sea are readily available off the coasts of Prince Edward Island. There is nothing like catching, preparing and eating your own seafood. Doesn’t matter what kind of fish, whether it be fresh mackerel or a huge blue finned tuna, you will fall in love with deep sea fishing five minutes after you climb onto the boat, whether you’ve done it once or a hundred times before.
Possibly you’re the adventurous type who wants to try fishing for shark. That opportunity is also available. Ask your travel agent to help locate those boat captains willing to guide you into shark infested waters for that special high seas adventure. Whatever your preference, Prince Edward Island has it all. The best mackerel fishing can be had off the coast in the Gulf of St. Lawrence or in the Northumberland Strait. Most fishing charters are booked from early July to September, with the hotspots being, Naufrage, North Lake, Red Head, Savage Harbour, Covehead Harbour and Malpeque, to name a few.
A standard charter is three and half hours long and can be a great activity for the whole family. The crew will even help you filet and dress your catch, so that all you will have to do is put in the pan and fry it up and serve. If you prefer, bigger quarry then you may want to try shark or tuna fishing. But leave the kids at home on this trip. Tuna charters are available all over PEI, however it takes a special boat to go after shark. These boats are few and their charters fill up fast. So once you decide to go after shark, you will have to act quickly to shore up your reservations and planning. Bookings start in September based on migratory patterns of the giant predator. The sharks hang in the cooler waters of the channels so there is no need for land dwellers to worry about seeing them when they’re swimming off the beaches. There has never been a shark attack off any PEI beach which all have the warmest waters north of the American Carolinas.
Tuna charters are booked beginning in July. These big fish are known to fight for up to three hours after they are hooked, sometimes dragging a boat up to six miles before wearing down. Bluefin Tuna will weigh on the high side of 400 kg and often won’t show themselves until you’ve actually pulled them into the boat. North Lake is considered the Tuna Capital of the World so if you’re looking for this type of adventure, North Lake should be your first consideration. One thing you will need to remember, unlike other fish, anything you catch belongs to the captain of the boat. In exchange he or she will give you a free charter. But they keep the fish, while you must content yourself with pictures and lots and lots of vacation memories.
